Ramadan is a time for reflection, self-discipline, and compassion. As Muslims, we are encouraged to fast during the holy month to purify our souls, strengthen our faith, and grow closer to Allah.

However, there are times when fasting becomes impossible due to illness, old age, or circumstances beyond our control. In these moments, Fidya and Kaffarah serve as a way to continue fulfilling our obligations to Allah and to serve those in need.

How Much Do You Need to Pay for Fidya?

The payment for Fidya is typically the value of 2kg of wheat for each missed day of fasting. In the UK, this is approximately £5 per missed fast, enough to provide two meals for a person or one meal for two.

For those who are unable to fast for an entire month, the total cost of Fidya for Ramadan 2025 would be £150—a small price to pay for the immense reward of feeding the hungry.

How Much Do You Need to Pay for Kaffarah?

Kaffarah requires a donation of £300 per fast, which covers the cost of feeding one person two meals a day for 60 consecutive days.

For just £300, you can provide food and dignity to someone who needs it most, all while making amends for breaking your fast.

“Fasting is for a fixed number of days, and if one of you be sick, or if one of you be on a journey, you will fast the same number of other days later on. For those who are capable of fasting (but still do not fast) there is a redemption: feeding a needy man for each day missed.”

Qur’an 2:184

Fidya: A Compassionate Act of Charity

Imagine the feeling of hunger. For many, it is a temporary inconvenience—perhaps just a few hours before Iftar. But for millions around the world, hunger is a constant reality.

Now, imagine if you were unable to fast, not because you chose not to, but because of illness, old age, or chronic health issues that would prevent you from ever fasting again. This is where Fidya comes in.

Kaffarah: Restoring the Sacredness of Fasting

Sometimes, in moments of weakness, we may break our fast unintentionally or without a valid reason. Kaffarah is required when a person deliberately breaks their fast by eating, drinking, or engaging in any other invalidating act, without a valid excuse.

The penalty for breaking a fast intentionally is to feed one person two meals a day for 60 days—totaling 120 meals.
