How to Perform Wudu (Ablution)
| Step | Action | Spiritual Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Intention (Niyyah) | Make a sincere intention in your heart to perform Wudu for the sake of Allah. | Purifies the intention — every act begins with sincerity. |
| 2. Say “Bismillah” | Begin in the name of Allah before starting the physical actions. | Invokes blessings and focuses the heart on worship. |
| 3. Wash Hands | Wash both hands up to the wrists three times, ensuring water reaches between fingers. | Cleanses the hands that will serve in worship and good deeds. |
| 4. Rinse Mouth | Rinse the mouth three times, swilling water thoroughly. | Purifies the tongue that recites Qur’an and speaks truth. |
| 5. Rinse Nose | Inhale water gently into the nostrils three times and expel it. | Removes impurities and symbolises humility before Allah. |
| 6. Wash Face | Wash the entire face from forehead to chin, ear to ear, three times. | Brightens the face that will shine with light on the Day of Judgment. |
| 7. Wash Arms | Wash the right arm then the left, from fingertips to elbows, three times. | Purifies the limbs used in action and service. |
| 8. Wipe Head (Masah) | Wipe the head once with wet hands — from the forehead to the back and return. | Refreshes the mind and symbolises renewed focus and discipline. |
| 9. Clean Ears | Wipe inside and outside of both ears with wet fingers. | Purifies hearing — a reminder to listen to what is right. |
| 10. Wash Feet | Wash the right foot then the left up to the ankles three times. | Purifies the feet that walk toward prayer and righteousness. |
| 11. Recite Dua after Wudu | After completing Wudu, recite: “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh.” | Declares faith and invites entry through the gates of Jannah. |
