Each year, heavy snowfall isolates mountain valleys across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Temperatures fall to –10 °C, roads are buried for weeks, and families lose access to food, healthcare and heating. In 2024, over 230 villages in Neelum and Leepa Valleys were reported cut off during January and February.
Local hospitals struggle to operate, and elderly residents face rising respiratory illness. Without external help, hundreds of families endure the winter in single-brick homes with no insulation.
