Fight the Deep Freeze in Kashmir

Every winter, Azad Kashmir faces freezing temperatures, blizzards and blocked roads that trap entire communities. Valleys like Neelum and Gurez are often cut off for months, leaving families without food, medicine or warmth.

Children sleep in unheated homes while widows and the elderly face dangerous cold. Yet, through your Sadaqah and Zakat, there is hope — a chance to bring winter relief in Kashmir to those who need it most.

With your help, Kashmir Welfare Foundation delivers emergency winter packs across snow-covered mountain villages before the roads close for the season.

Why Winter Aid Matters in Azad Kashmir

Each year, heavy snowfall isolates mountain valleys across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Temperatures fall to –10 °C, roads are buried for weeks, and families lose access to food, healthcare and heating. In 2024, over 230 villages in Neelum and Leepa Valleys were reported cut off during January and February.

Local hospitals struggle to operate, and elderly residents face rising respiratory illness. Without external help, hundreds of families endure the winter in single-brick homes with no insulation. Your donation changes this reality — bringing blankets, fuel and medicine before snow blocks the final roads.

The Hidden Crisis – Life Behind the Snow

In the remote mountain hamlet of Tao Butt in Neelum Valley, ten-year-old Arifa and her family face nights that drop below –10 °C. When the snow blocks the narrow road, her father cannot reach the market and the family lives on a few kilos of flour until help arrives. Their home, built from thin wooden planks, has gaps where the wind whistles through.

When our Kashmir Welfare Foundation volunteers reached their village last winter, Arifa’s mother was boiling snow for water. “We never imagined people would climb here just to bring blankets,” she said with tears in her eyes. That small box of supplies — a thick quilt, children’s coats, and heating fuel — changed their night from fear to relief.

“We lit the stove and for the first time that week, my children slept warm.” — Arifa’s Mother, Tao Butt Village

There are hundreds of families like Arifa’s hidden in Kashmir’s valleys. Without urgent winter relief, they face frostbite, illness, and isolation. Your Sadaqah or Zakat can send lifesaving warmth to these unreachable homes before the snow closes every road.

Transparency You Can See

At Kashmir Welfare Foundation, every penny you donate is treated with Islamic accountability and integrity. We believe that transparency builds trust — and trust builds change.

Our team on the ground purchases winter aid items locally, often from families we’ve trained and equipped through our Empower Lives initiative. This ensures fair trade, local empowerment and value for money.

Volunteer lists are verified at village level to ensure aid reaches those most in need — widows, orphans and families stranded before road closures. We don’t just deliver warmth. We deliver dignity.

❄️ Voices from the Ground

In the freezing valleys of Neelum, Leepa and Muzaffarabad, volunteers brave snow and blocked roads to deliver your winter donations. Their stories remind us how every act of kindness becomes a spark of warmth.

“We started walking at dawn with mules carrying blankets. By sunset, we reached a widow’s home half-buried in snow. Her tears when we gave her the pack reminded me — this is why we do it.”

– Yasir, Volunteer (Neelum Valley)

“We trekked two hours across a frozen bridge to reach a family that had been without food for three days. Thanks to donors, we brought winter packs and food supplies just before nightfall.”

– Nadia, Field Coordinator (Leepa Valley)

“Our small team in Muzaffarabad packed hundreds of coats before roads shut. Every jacket means one child who won’t freeze tonight — and that’s a victory for us all.”

– Bilal, Logistics Volunteer (Muzaffarabad)
