A Note from our Chair
Imagine being a young girl in Kashmir, walking miles each day under the hot sun, carrying heavy clay pots full of water for your family. Every step is a struggle, but you can’t stop. Your family depends on you. This was the reality for many women in Kashmir… including my mother.
Even today, whenever my mother talks about her childhood, her eyes fill with tears. As she reflects on her journey through the valleys of Kashmir, her voice holds both pride and pain. Yet, amidst the hardship, she speaks of how her community always came together. “We didn’t have much, but we had each other.” Those words have stayed with us, shaping our values of family, resilience, and compassion.
We are not alone in this— the founders of Kashmir Welfare Foundation share similar stories, having grown up listening to our mothers and grandmothers. This is where the idea for the Kashmir Welfare Foundation was born.
As British Kashmiris born in the UK, we may not have witnessed our mothers’ struggles firsthand, but we grew up with their stories of pain and perseverance. As second-generation Kashmiris, we are now equipped with the resources to make a lasting change and to transform the future for those who face the same struggles our mothers once did.
Inspired by our mothers’ strength and the sacrifices of generations before us, we launched this charity to honor their legacy by making a real difference in Kashmir. Our mission is simple: provide food, water, healthcare, and education to those in need.
