Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah and the final Prophet of Islam. His life story continues to inspire more than 1.8 billion Muslims across the world. He was a leader, a teacher, and a man of deep compassion who cared for the poor, the orphans, and the oppressed. His example is timeless, guiding believers to live with justice, humility, and generosity.
At Kashmir Welfare Foundation, we believe the best way to honour his legacy is by living his teachings. His emphasis on charity and caring for others is at the heart of our mission to support families, orphans, and communities in need.
Birth and Early Life of the Prophet ﷺ
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in the year 570 in the city of Makkah. This year is remembered as the Year of the Elephant. He was born into the Quraysh tribe, a respected family in Makkah. Yet from the beginning, his life was marked by hardship. His father, Abdullah, passed away before his birth. His mother, Amina, died when he was only six years old.
He grew up an orphan, cared for first by his grandfather and later by his uncle Abu Talib. Despite these challenges, young Muhammad ﷺ became known for his honesty and integrity. The people of Makkah gave him the title Al-Amin, meaning the trustworthy.
This early experience of being an orphan shaped his compassion. He often reminded Muslims to protect and care for orphans. Today, many children in Kashmir face similar struggles without parents to support them. By sponsoring an orphan, you can live the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and give a child safety, hope, and education.
The Revelation and His Mission
At the age of forty, while meditating in the Cave of Hira, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received his first revelation from Allah through Angel Jibreel. This marked the beginning of his Prophethood and his mission to spread the message of Islam.
The revelations continued for twenty-three years and were later compiled into the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam. His message was clear: worship Allah alone, establish justice, show compassion, and give charity.
One of his greatest teachings was the importance of Zakat, the obligatory charity, and Sadaqah, voluntary giving. He taught that wealth is a trust from Allah and must be shared to ease the suffering of others.
Persecution and the Hijrah
When the Prophet ﷺ began calling people to Islam, he faced severe opposition from the Quraysh tribe. His followers were insulted, tortured, and driven from their homes. Life in Makkah became unbearable.
In 622, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions migrated to the city of Madinah. This event, known as the Hijrah, marked the beginning of the Islamic calendar. It was a journey of sacrifice, leaving behind homes, wealth, and comfort for the sake of faith.
Today, countless families in Kashmir also face displacement due to conflict and poverty. Just as the Prophet ﷺ supported migrants and refugees, we too must support those forced to rebuild their lives in hardship.

Building a Just Society in Madinah
In Madinah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ created the Constitution of Madinah. This was a social contract ensuring justice, equality, and the protection of all communities, including non-Muslims. He taught that no one should sleep hungry while others had food, and that helping the poor was a duty, not a choice.
His leadership turned Madinah into a model of compassion and fairness. Every person, whether rich or poor, felt included and respected.
At KWF, our medical projects, clean water initiatives, and food programmes in Kashmir aim to follow this same vision of fairness and dignity for all.

The Conquest of Makkah
In 630, after years of conflict, the Prophet ﷺ returned to Makkah with thousands of followers. Many feared he would take revenge for years of persecution. Instead, he showed mercy. He forgave his enemies and declared peace.
This act of forgiveness transformed hearts. Entire communities embraced Islam because of his compassion. His leadership proved that strength lies not in revenge but in mercy.
As Muslims today, we are reminded that acts of kindness and generosity soften hearts and build communities. Donating to those in need keeps this spirit alive.

The Legacy of the Prophet ﷺ
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ left behind a legacy of justice, knowledge, and compassion. He inspired the Islamic Golden Age, where scholars advanced medicine, science, and philosophy. More importantly, he emphasised caring for the poor, saying:
“The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers close together.
