The Deeper Meaning of Life: A Test from Allah

There are moments in life when we feel lost, broken, and overwhelmed by the weight of our struggles. Pain can consume us, and we find ourselves asking, Why is this happening to me? Why does Allah allow bad things to happen?

But my dear brother, my dear sister, know this: Life is a test. Every hardship, every tear, and every moment of despair is part of a greater plan—one designed by the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

Why Does Allah Test Us?

It is natural to question why we face trials. But understand that every difficulty carries wisdom beyond our comprehension. Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Do people think they will be left alone because they say: ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested? And We indeed tested those who were before them…” (Qur’an 29:2-3)

Trials are not punishments; they are opportunities for growth, patience, and trust in Allah. If we never knew hardship, how would we appreciate ease? If we never felt pain, how could we understand true joy?

When we face difficulties, we have a choice: Do we draw closer to Allah, trusting in His wisdom? Or do we let despair consume us?

The Reality of Pain and Depression

Sadness is part of the human experience. Even Prophet Muhammad ()—the best of creation—felt sorrow and cried when he lost his beloved son. When we feel down, we should not suppress our emotions. Instead, we should turn to Allah, who understands our pain more than anyone else. He is Ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful, and Ar-Rahim, the Most Compassionate.

The Prophet () said:

“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Qur’an 94:6)

This is a divine promise. No storm lasts forever. No night remains without dawn. Your suffering is temporary, and relief is on its way.

Allah’s Blessings Upon Us

Even in pain, we are surrounded by countless blessings. The ability to breathe, to see, to hear, and to feel—these are gifts from our Creator. Yet, we often focus on what we lack rather than what we have.

Reflect on the trials of Prophet Ayyub (AS), who lost his health, wealth, and family, yet remained patient. Allah restored everything to him because of his unwavering faith. Your struggles are not in vain; they are steps toward something greater.

Returning to Allah

We come from Allah, and to Him, we will return. This life is temporary, a mere blink compared to the eternity of the Hereafter. Whatever you are going through, remind yourself that it is just a chapter in your journey back to your Creator.

Let nature take its course. Accept the trials with trust, knowing that Allah never burdens a soul beyond what it can bear. Your pain has a purpose. Your suffering has meaning. Your patience will be rewarded in ways you cannot imagine.

Compassion and Mercy

If Allah, in all His might and power, is merciful towards His creation, shouldn’t we also show mercy—to ourselves and to others? Forgive yourself for your mistakes. Be gentle with your heart. And always remember, Allah’s mercy is greater than any sin, any sorrow, and any suffering you may endure.

You Are Not Alone

If you are feeling broken today, hold on. Allah is with you. Speak to Him. Pour your heart out in sujood. Trust in His plan, and know that every tear, every hardship, and every trial is leading you to something better—either in this life or the next.

You are stronger than you think. You are loved beyond measure. And most importantly, you are never alone.

May Allah grant you patience, ease, and a heart full of unshakable faith. Ameen.

Give Sadaqah

Finally, when your heart feels burdened, give Sadaqah. Sadaqah has the power to alleviate our suffering, make our hearts stronger and reinstate our belief in our lord. Learn More about the impacts of Sadaqah.
