Pakistan, a country known for its rich culture and breathtaking landscapes, is unfortunately plagued by the issue of poverty. This problem is not limited to just one region, but it is particularly prevalent in Azad Kashmir, a region in the northern part of the country.
Azad Kashmir, which consists of districts like Mirpur, Kotli, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad, faces numerous challenges when it comes to combating poverty. Despite its natural beauty and potential for tourism, the lack of infrastructure and economic opportunities has hindered its progress.
Mirpur – Little England
Mirpur, known as the “Little England of Azad Kashmir,” is a prime example of the poverty-stricken areas in the region. The lack of industries and limited job opportunities have led to high unemployment rates. Many young people are forced to migrate to other cities in search of better prospects, leaving behind their families and contributing to the cycle of poverty.
Whilst Mirpur and Dadyal do receive a lot of foreign funding through expats, unfortunately, its not managed in a way in which it could create a sustainable difference. It provides temporary relief to poor families and after a short period, they are in need again.
Kotli
Kotli, another district in Azad Kashmir, also faces similar challenges. The lack of access to quality education and healthcare facilities further exacerbates the poverty situation. Families struggle to make ends meet, and the cycle of poverty continues from one generation to the next.
Bagh
Bagh, known for its beautiful valleys and lush green landscapes, is also affected by poverty. Despite its potential for agriculture and tourism, the lack of government support and investment has hindered its growth. The people of Bagh are resilient, but they need assistance and opportunities to break free from the chains of poverty.
Muzaffarabad
Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir, also grapples with poverty. The city, which is known for its picturesque beauty and historical significance, has not been able to fully utilize its potential due to the lack of infrastructure and economic development.
It is crucial for the government and relevant authorities to address the issue of poverty in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan as a whole. By investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and by creating employment opportunities, we can uplift these regions and provide a better future for their residents.
Let’s join hands and work towards eradicating poverty from Azad Kashmir and Pakistan, ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for all.
