💚 Poverty in Haveli
Haveli’s high-altitude villages face long, harsh winters. When snow blocks the routes, elderly people and widows cannot reach basic services. Much of the population relies on small farming and remittances; any disruption pushes them below the survival line.
Your donation allows KWF to deliver winter packs, medical relief and livelihood support exactly where the snow and landslides hit hardest.
“Allah helps the servant as long as the servant helps his brother.”

Establish Waqf❄️ Haveli District – Area Profile
Haveli District, carved out of Bagh in 2009, is one of Azad Kashmir’s youngest and most mountainous districts. Located along the Line of Control, it is known for its cold climate, scenic valleys, and strong community spirit — but also for its harsh winters, limited access roads, and earthquake-prone terrain.
📍 Location & Demographics
- Western Azad Kashmir, bordering Indian-administered Uri and Poonch
- Area: ~600 km²
- Population (2017): ~160,000
- Headquarters: Forward Kahuta
- Tehsils: Forward Kahuta, Khurshidabad, Mumtazabad
- Languages: Pahari, Urdu, Gojri
🏔️ Geography & Climate
- Mountainous terrain of the Pir Panjal range
- Elevation: 1,800 – 3,200 m
- Cold winters with heavy snowfall and frost
- Moderate rainfall but frequent landslides
- Seismic zone with risk of moderate earthquakes
🏛️ History & Administration
Once part of Bagh District, Haveli was made a separate district in 2009 to improve local governance and representation. The region witnessed significant damage during the 2005 earthquake and remains one of the least connected districts in Azad Kashmir due to its terrain and proximity to the Line of Control.
📚 Education & Development
Education has improved in recent years with new schools and community initiatives. However, poor connectivity, limited infrastructure and harsh weather conditions continue to hinder progress. Health and communication services are sparse, with residents relying on regional aid programs and remittances.
⚠️ Challenges Facing Haveli District
Life in Haveli is shaped by nature — breathtaking but brutal. Long winters, landslides, and isolation test the patience and resilience of its people every year.
Severe Winters
Snowfall often cuts off villages from basic supplies for weeks at a time.
Earthquake Risk
Located in a high-risk seismic zone; homes and schools require safer construction.
Road Blockages
Narrow mountain roads frequently close due to landslides and snow, isolating entire valleys.
Lack of Medical Facilities
Only a handful of basic health centres exist; emergencies often require travel to Rawalakot or Bagh.
Winter Fuel Scarcity
Deforestation and poverty leave many without adequate heating or insulation during cold months.
