It has long served as a historical route for Mughal emperors, traders, and pilgrims entering Kashmir. The district combines ancient heritage with agricultural plains — but faces rising challenges of water scarcity, deforestation, and rapid soil erosion.
Bhimber has deep historical roots, once a staging post for Mughal emperors en route to Kashmir. The Mughal-era rest houses, forts, and routes still exist today, marking its heritage significance. It became a separate district in 1996, part of the Mirpur Division, and is known for its patriotic and hard-working residents.
Education levels are rising, with new schools and colleges emerging in Bhimber City and Samahni Valley. However, limited water resources and low industrial activity continue to restrict growth. Most households rely on agriculture, livestock, and remittances from overseas workers.
Despite its fertile lands and historic routes, Bhimber faces growing environmental and livelihood challenges.

Forest cover is shrinking as wood is used for fuel and land clearing continues for farming.
