Many parts of Poonch lie close to the Line of Control. Families here live with uncertainty, disrupted schooling, and limited income sources. When movement is restricted or tensions rise, it is the poorest households — widows, orphans, and labourers — who feel it first.
With your help, KWF can keep food on the table, sponsor children’s education, and deliver emergency aid to border villages that are often overlooked.
“Whoever protects the vulnerable, Allah protects him.”

Establish WaqfPoonch District, in the south of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, is a region of rolling hills, fertile valleys, and historic trade routes. It borders the Line of Control and is often described as the “gateway between Kashmir and the plains.” Despite its natural beauty and strategic position, many communities face economic hardship and limited infrastructure due to recurring tensions and isolation.
Poonch has deep historical roots, known for its resistance and trade links during the Dogra and British periods. It played a pivotal role during the 1947–48 conflict and continues to symbolize Kashmiri resilience. The district now serves as a key administrative and agricultural hub within AJK’s Poonch Division.
With Rawalakot as an educational nucleus, literacy levels are relatively high compared to other southern districts. Yet, rural schools remain under-resourced, and female literacy rates need focused improvement. Infrastructure and digital connectivity are gradually expanding through diaspora-funded initiatives.
Border proximity and terrain combine to make life in Poonch complex — natural beauty meets socio-economic vulnerability.
Intermittent cross-border tensions disrupt farming and schooling in frontier villages.
Monsoon rains frequently wash away key rural roads connecting upper valleys to Rawalakot.
Uncontrolled deforestation and steep slopes lead to flash floods and soil loss.
Youth migration to cities or abroad leaves agriculture-dependent families struggling.
Rural health centres lack equipment and trained staff for emergencies or maternal care.
